- Possession of a gun magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds is illegal (effective January 15th).
- The "Start-Up NY Program" which creates tax-free zones around state colleges and universities begins January 1st.
- A constitutional amendment allowing for non-Indian-owned casinos to be developed in the Southern Tier, Catskills region, and around Albany takes effect.
- Judges may now keep alternate jurors for service through jury deliberations.
- The state minimum wage increases from $7.25 to $8.00 per hour.
